Paving in the Newington stretch could slow things down for a few weeks.

Final paving work of the Spaulding Turnpike from the Little Bay Bridge to Exit 1 is set to begin Thursday, April 21, according to the state Department of Transportation. Work is expected to take about a month.

The paving operations include the north and southbound lanes as well as the exit 3 and 4 ramps. This work will include closures of lanes and ramps. There will be message boards with information of lane closures.

When all the work is done, the Spaulding should have wider lanes and exits. But in the meantime, your commute through that area could be longer than normal. The project should be complete by the end of May.
