Ford is recalling certain 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion, 2013 to 2015 Lincoln MKZ and 2015 and 2016 Ford Mondeo cars. The recall totals more than 680,000 vehicles.

According to Ford, heat that is generated when the seat belt pre-tensioners deploy could cause cables to break. The belts may not work properly if that happens. The company says it knows of two injuries related to the problem.

The recall is expected to begin on Jan. 16. Dealers will inject insulation into the pre-tensioners to protect the cables from heat at no cost to owners.

Most of the cars are in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
