I know we just had a bit of snow, but the mild winter is giving these buggers a head start.

The season started a month earlier than usual thanks to the warm winter. Some New Englanders have already started to pull these bloodsuckers off their pets.

Tick season generally begins after the snow is melted, and the region stays above the 40 degree mark. Recently, our region has been up and down with the temperatures and the snow, but this shouldn't deter these little fellers.

A dry spring would go a long way in keep the tick population down, but so far, that hasn't happened.

New Hampshire, along with our neighbors Maine and Vermont, are among high risk states for the number of reported cases of Lyme disease.

So, checking your pets for ticks should become a daily routine, especially this time of year. If you are used to waiting until late April or May to do that, heads up! The ticks are out now waiting to pounce.
