This is the definition of irony, albeit in a sad way.

John Spinello, needs oral surgery, which will cost  around $25,000. John invented the iconic board game Operation, and doesn't have it. You see he sold the game in 1964 to a toy company for a low, low sum of $500, and that would be all the money from that game that John would see.

I can't even begin to count how many hours I played Operation. Every friend I knew had that game, and my parents probably had to buy it again 2 or 3 different times because we wore it out. It was a game that would hold your interest for at least 4 or 5 years easily. Heck, writing this is making me want to play it now.

Back to John Spinello. His friends have now started a Crowdrise page to help him pay for his surgery. They say he doesn't dwell on the fact he didn’t make a lot of money off the game, but are asking people to help him out.

Below is an update as of this morning (10/30) featuring John Spinello.
