The imaginative chef and owner of Moxy Restaurant in Portsmouth has been nominated for "Best Chef in the Northeast" by the James Beard Foundation.

To be recognized by the James Beard Foundation is considered to be the highest honor for chefs, and the New Hampshire seacoast has a nominated one right in our backyard at Moxy located on Penhallow Street in downtown Portsmouth.

Chef Louis is among 20 nominees in the category which will be trimmed down to finalists on March 15th. The James Beard Awards Gala will take place in Chicago on May 2 where they will crown the 'Best Chef.'

Chef Louis shared with us his vision of a local based menu, using only the freshest ingredients from local resources. (For instance, he uses Brookford Farm in Canterbury, NH as his spot for blue cheese.)

In case you're wondering (and I know your tastebuds are), he made us the Beef Short Rib Marmalade from the 'Everything Else' section of the Moxy menu. It was devine.
