Macy's Announced in January, 2024, Closing Stores

In January of 2024, Macy's announced the closure of some of its stores and the reduction of its workforce by 3.5 percent. The report also said it would cut approximately 2,300 corporate jobs.

Now, a month later, Macy's has made another announcement. According to CNN, they will be closing 150 of their locations.

It will be a long process. However, the article states they will close 50 locations by the end of 2024 and the other 100 in the next few years.

Macy's has four locations in New Hampshire: Salem, Manchester, Newington, and Nashua.

So far, none of these locations are on the list to close, but it must be an uneasy feeling for the employees of the New Hampshire locations.

The Future of Macy's

Like so many businesses, Macy's is changing and acclimating to the new demands and trends of their customers.

The CNN article cited here does have some "good" news: the company will build smaller stores over the next couple of years. That is the shoppers' trend, it doesn't demand such a big staff, and they can carry less merchandise.

The New Hampshire Stores May Be Okay

Macy's is closing their "underperforming" stores, so because the New Hampshire locations are still advertising for help, it may mean that those locations are okay. But that's just my "glass half full" view of the world.

If you are looking for a job and you don't mind everything going on, some locations are hiring, according to ZipRecruiter:

Retail Commission Sales Associate - Fine Jewelry, Mall of New Hampshire - Full Time

Did you notice that this is a commissioned position?

This means that if you get this job and you see some blonde walking around with this look in her eye cause she just spotted some shiny thing in the case, you should find the keys and open it as soon as you possibly can.

How do you feel about Macy's closing?
