State-issued IDs will no longer be accepted for domestic flights by airport security as soon as early next year.

There's a bit of uncertainty about how Granite Staters are going to get through airports and onto planes when the Real ID Act takes effect.

This measure means State issued ID's won't be good enough to get you on a plane. You'll need to go to the expense of getting a new passport if you don't have an up-to-date one.

The NH Legislature is working on getting the state compliant. 'Federal over-reach' is the answer most give in opposition of this act, but the deadline is creeping up, and most people know nothing about it.

" The Real ID Act of 2005 was a post-Sept. 11 measure that tightened access to federal facilities and created a national standard for state-issued IDs. The law has been rolled out by the Department of Homeland Security in several phases and could take effect next year, though that date is very much up in the air."

NH Gov Maggie Hassan is supporting the NH Legislature's efforts in resolving this matter. Otherwise, it could mean extra long lines at the airport for us New Hampshire folk.
