Why do people insist on taking their dogs with them where ever they go?

I would love, just once, to go through an entire summer without having to read a story about an animal or a child being left in a hot car while an adult runs errands.

Thankfully, I haven't been exposed to many children left in the cars stories this year, perhaps I've been missing them, or hopefully, people are starting to figure out it's not a great idea.

I wish I could say the same about leaving dogs in cars. In an article posted at Seacoastonline.com, I read of a dog left in a hot car. Thankfully, an officer was called to the scene and actually was able to observe the dog for a while before making the decision to let it out of the car.

The owner will be fined, according to the article, and the dog was taken to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter in Stratham, where it is still unclaimed.

Good. I certainly don't want the previous owner around it. I'd like this black lab mixed to find a loving home with a more responsible owner.

Why does anyone think I dog is better off in a hot car than in the house?
