It's often referred to as the "locals' mountain" for New Englanders because of its legendary, no-frills feel that's just about the love of skiing and family fun. It's also one of the oldest in the entire country, according to the New England Cable News website. So, what a shock for so many ski and snowboard lovers to learn that the historic Black Mountain isn't opening for this 2023-2024 winter ski season.

Black Mountain has 45 trails with a vertical drop of 1,100 feet that skiers of all levels love to enjoy because of its history and feel and beauty.  It's in Jackson, New Hampshire, and has been hosting skiers for 88 years. However, according to its Facebook page, its owners say that while it's not possible to open this season, they hope to resume for the 2024-2025 season and beyond.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, including soaring energy costs, unpredictable weather, extreme staffing shortages throughout the region, and many other challenges, we have made the very difficult decision to cease operations. We apologize for any inconvenience. To all of our past and present team members, all season pass holders and guests, extended family and friends - thank you for your support over the years, we will miss you. Thank you for being the true spirit of skiing and keeping the dream alive.

The family says they're working on refunding season passes and any other reimbursement necessary. Meanwhile, we're wishing the best to the Fichera family as they regroup for hopefully many more seasons to come.
