Technically my headline is a bit misleading, but yesterday the famous Kenmore Square Citgo sign won a huge battle in it's fight to become a protected landmark.

According to The Boston Globe,

A city board voted to launch the process of making the iconic electric sign an official city landmark. That means any building plans that might affect the sign would be subject to voluntary design review with the Boston Landmarks Commission. And more stringent protections could come in a few months.

As you look at the gleaming neon above, aren't you overcome with a sense of happiness? Knowing that the inspiring sound of the crack of the bat awaits you at Fenway Park?

Not even mentioning the fact that it signifies that you navigated your way past the bridges, tunnels and rude MassH@#$ drivers and are on the right path to the promised land? Isn't that the VERY DEFINITION of what a landmark is?

Hopefully this latest decision is a bold step in the right direction and the new owner of the property will have to keep this historic beacon blinking brightly forever!
