This is quite possibly the dumbest crime I've ever heard of.

Kevin Fields from Somersworth will now have to spend 30 months in jail because he stole over $22,000 of stamps. He'll also have to repay the U.S. Postal Service the value of the stamps.

Federal Investigators announced that Fields would sell the stolen stamps from New Hampshire and Maine to pawn shops for electronics and cash. Fields admitted that he used counterfeit checks to purchase the stamps.

I don't have a criminal mind, but what am I missing here? If a person has counterfeit checks, why are they buying stamps? If you were of the ilk to go on a crime spree, wouldn't you set your sites a little higher than stamps? Perhaps some big ticket items like jewelry, or even brand new electronics.

Does Mr. Fields even admit to his crime while eating with the other Federal prisoners? I'm sure he'll be mingling with some hard-nosed fellas. Stealing stamps? He'd better come up with a better story than that, or he'll be someone's property pretty quick.
