This New Hampshire City is Changing Up Its On-Street Parking

To put it bluntly, having to pay for on-street parking sucks. It's not just one of those little-by-little drains to your bank account, but the whole process is usually annoying as hell.

At least the annoyance has lessened a bit with the advancement of technology, going from having to look behind every single floor mat and behind every car seat possible to find enough quarters to drop in the meter to hold you over, to at least being able to pay with cash or card.

Depending on where you live, paying for on-street parking is executed a bit differently now. For example, in Portland, Maine, you can pay for parking all at the palm of your hand with an app on your phone.

Other cities actually make you put some cardio in, first having to park your vehicle, then get out and find a nearby meter, pay for your time, then walk back to your vehicle and display the receipt on your dash.

And while that last way is how it's been executed in one particular New Hampshire city for at least a decade, the parking game is changing as we speak and will be for the next couple of weeks -- but it's actually a good thing.

Dover, New Hampshire, Parking Changes

A few days ago on the official City of Dover NH page on Facebook, it was announced that on-street parking execution was going to be changing from displaying a receipt of payment on your dashboard to a pay-by-plate method.

While the payment method will still remain the same -- the meters take both coins and cards, still -- instead of displaying the receipt, part of the payment process includes entering your license plate number, which will allow meter attendants to check your parking status by entering your plate number into their devices.

So, basically, you just pay and walk away -- it couldn't be easier! The City of Dover also provided a quick, two-minute tutorial video for ultimate clarification, but it's pretty easy and self-explanatory to figure out on your own as well.
