Graham Nash was born on the date. Nash first gained fame as a member of the The Hollies who he left in 1968. Became a member of Crosby Stills Nash, later adding Neil Young to the group on occasion.

Buddy Holly,The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, died in a crash shortly after take-off from Clear Lake, Iowa. Holly hired the plane after heating problems developed on his tour bus. All three were travelling to Fargo, North Dakota, for the next show on their Winter Dance Party Tour.

The Beatles filmed a promo clip for the song 'Penny Lane' and together with the video for 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. This was one of the first examples of music videos.
