We should all be pros at shoveling snow by now, but did you know that during last weekend's storm in Chicago, 18 people died shoveling snow?

In fact, 1 in 4 deaths that occur during a snowstorm are directly related to shoveling snow. There are a few precautions you can take to shovel as safely as you can.

These include getting the proper tools, including an ergonomically correct snow shovel. These shovels have a bend in the shaft so your body stays upright. You should cover the shovel with a non-stick element to keep the snow from sticking to the shovel.

Dress in layers, wear proper boots for good footing, and stretch before heading out. Also, be sure to take a few breaks, especially if your going to be out for a while. Click below for a complete list of shoveling tips.
