An alarming number of students were arrested around the campus in the first week this year, but records show that things have gotten crazier.

According to this NH1 News Report, there have been 46 students arrested on and around the Durham, NH campus in just the first 6 days of classes.

The majority of the arrests were made for unlawful intoxication and drug possession according to this article by The Foster's Daily Democrat.

As a 1997 graduate of The University of New Hampshire, I must take this opportunity to say that I'm appalled at the behavior of these so-called students. Setting a 5-year record for arrests in one week and to do so the very first week is very shameful. I'm sure my other classmates from 1997 will agree with me.

Oh wait it looks like they got into a bit of trouble, according to this article in The Dartmouth from September 23, 1997:

Seven students at the University of New Hampshire were arrested on Friday after a 90-minute standoff during which a crowd of 600 students pelted police with bottles and cans. It was the second such incident at UNH in just two weeks.

Maybe I should step down from my high horse and hope that this ordeal was just a learning experience for the 46 rowdy revelers, as researching this post was certainly quite a lesson for yours truly.
