Carl Chapman bought his first and only car, a brand new 1936 Deluxe Ford, just after he graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester. He was 18 years old and the car cost $590.

Five years later, Carl joined the U.S. Army, and married his sweetheart Florence. In 1944 he was shipped overseas to join the war. That summer, Florence gave birth to a son who was named after his father. Days later, Carl Chapman was killed in action In Normandy, France.

Carl Junior grew up, and in 1967 married his sweetheart Georgia and got the surprise of his life.  As a wedding present, his grandfather Preston gave him the 1936 Deluxe Ford that he had stored all those years unbeknownst to Carl Junior!

That car will be showcased at the 5th Annual Berwick Car Show hosted by The American Legion Post 79  this Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm on Sullivan Street in Berwick, Maine.
