Through Operation Santa, you can help kids from your local area and across the country get what they really want for Christmas. The United States Postal Service is making children of all ages happy once again this year with "Operation Santa," according to our news partner WMTW. Boston is one of 15 cities participating in this program, so you'll be able to send a gift to a child in New England if you want to keep it local.

The are a couple of ways to help, depending on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.: You can adopt a letter on your own or team up with family and friends. Go to USPS Operation Santa's website, and find a letter that speaks to you and your budget. Read through several of them to find a letter that touches your heart. Many kids are asking for expensive electronics; others want nothing more than to help their families. Once you have adopted a letter, the USPS says to "shop, pack and ship." You can include a heartfelt note if you want to, or sign it as Santa.

There is a deadline. After all, you want your gift to be under the Christmas tree on December 25th. Be sure to send it by December 21st.
