Bed Bath & Beyond to Close 150 Stores, Some in New England

It kind of feels like the mail wouldn't be the mail if every couple of months you didn't receive an oversized coupon for 20% off at your closest Bed Bath & Beyond store. The longtime chain has been a favorite for years for bedding, cookware, bathroom items, and fixtures. The brick-and-mortar business still has its challenges, as Amazon, Walmart, and other online retailers offer free or discount shipping direct to consumers doorsteps.

Like many other large retailers, Bed Bath & Beyond has been seeing less people walk through their doors, and because of that, changes needed to be made. Fear not, fans of nonstick frying pans and 800 thread count Egyptian cotton. Bed Bath & Beyond isn't planning on changing the types of products they offer. According to USA Today, most of the changes revolve around closing 150 stores nationwide, including several in New England.

The midwest will be hit hardest with store closures, while here in New England, only 5 Bed Bath & Beyond locations will shut down. All of those locations are in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The company has already begun with a new business plan, focusing on a rewards program for loyal customers and brands the everyday consumer might recognize.

The 4 Bed Bath & Beyond stores in Maine located in Augusta, Bangor, Brunswick, and South Portland will all remain open. The same goes for the 8 New Hampshire locations in Amherst, Bedford, Concord, Keene, Nashua, Plaistow, Portsmouth, and Salem. The company is hopeful that their new business model will allow them to keep their remaining stores open.
