Our beloved Pats have their work cut out for them if they are expecting to make it to the post season for the 12th year in a row. Here's Bob Socci on how many wins might accomplish that feat.

Well you have to get to at least nine I think and it's still a long shot. The playoff chances are really remote beyond that path.

But I still think it's possible, you've got a number of teams that are at 5-3.

But the Patriots have got to play well, they'll especially have to play much, much better on defense-

-Bob Socci on the Pats Tough Path to Playoff Contention

It doesn't seem possible that less than a year ago, the prospects of even hosting a Wild Card Game were seen as such an embarrassing imposition. The first round bye is something that Pats fans have become accustomed to over the past twenty years.

Now, it's still early November and I'm clinging to the dwindling hope that a rally of good football and lucky bounces can turn things around.

According to Bob, the rest of the year The Pats have to go 6-2. After BARELY escaping New Jersey with a last second win over the pathetic Jets, playing .750 ball for a half season looks awfully daunting.

New England has a three game road trip in December in which they play back to back against Los Angeles teams and THEN head to Miami to take on the rival Dolphins.

Is it so much to ask that they NOT be mathematically eliminated before that trip?
