Valentine's Day is one of those holidays that can either be really fun or really, really awful. Most of us has been on both sides of that feeling. If you are not "coupled up," lucky for you, Dear New Englander, you are in luck.

Boston, Massachusetts has been named the 3rd best city to find love in the U.S. according to consumeraffairs.com. They evaluated dating opportunities, cost of living, (which is high, but more on that in a minute) quality of life and dating interest.

Boston = Lots of People, Which Means = Lots of Opportunity to Find THEE One

Boston's population is about 673,000 people, which is the largest amount of people in the Top 5 in their research. In fact, more than half of every 1,000 people in Boston are single.

Because Boston is a walking town, that gave it high points. You can get some exercise and maybe meet your soulmate along the way.

The study also makes mention of the big price tag living in Boston comes with. The median rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Boston is $2,044, which, they say, is $700 more expensive that the National average of $1,301.

Who beat Boston? Number 2: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Number 1 spot goes to Rochester, New York.

Massachusetts Singles Should Give Online Dating a Try

If you don't live in Boston or, if you are a hermit and just don't get out very often, I always encourage people to try online dating. A very good friend of mine is single and she is miserable. She says that she's happy on her own, but I know better. She says she doesn't want to do online dating because of all the weirdos out there. I feel that, but there are safety measures you can put into place. At the very least, you might find a new friend.

Single in New England? Get a Dog

Can I just say, by the way, if you don't have a dog and you're looking for love, get a dog. Especially if you live in a city. People bond over their pets and dogs have to do outside every day. Your Prince or Princess Charming may be right next door picking up his pooches poop.
