Car Rear Ends School Bus in Plaistow, NH

No children were injured when a car rear ended a school bus in Plasisow on Wednesday afternoon.

Plaistow fire fighters and EMS responded quickly to the crash on Main Street and began assessing the 14 high school students and driver in a triage set up, according to Plaistow Fire Chief Chris Knutsen. No one on board the bus was injured and they were able to continue on their trip home.

The bus was from the Haverhill school system, according to the Union Leader.

Knutsen did not disclose the circumstances of the crash or identify the driver of the car who was treated for minor injuries.

A photo of the crash on the Rockingham Alert Facebook page  showed the engine of the car completely exposed and the hood pushed up. The engine was completely under the bus.

Knutsen said the crash served as a reminder to maintain a safe driving distance from the vehicle in front.

"New Hampshire’s law requires stopping at least 25-feet from a school bus when their flashing red lights are activated, whether you are driving toward or from behind the bus," Knutsen said.
