They say that imitation is the best form of flattery, while I say that the Beach Plum in North Hampton stole my menu idea without giving me any credit at all.

No free samples. No putting my name on it to give me credit. Just a sign sitting on the order window, as if to mock me in front of my child.

The same child with whom I frequent this fine establishment across from North Hampton Beach – perhaps, and dare I say, our favorite. But I have to say…I’m hurt.

Especially after writing in glowing detail about the brilliant menu hack we created and enjoy each time we visit the Plum. I never wanted much – just that they name the combo after us, put my photo next to it, and let us eat it for free in perpetuity.

An ocean of emotion ran through my heart and soul as I processed what I, without much thinking, deemed to be culinary plagiarism. I’d never boycott the Beach Plum, but maybe I’d get even.

Instead, I’d draw inspiration from one of my passive aggressive heroes:

That’s right. I thought about opening up a spite shop across from The Beach Plum. I’d call it “Jonny’s Jimmies”, a seafood and ice cream shop located on the same side as the beach instead of across the road.

I even have the slogan: “Not as Good Menu, But Also No Crosswalking!”

However, before I jumped to these conclusions, I figured I could give the ice cream nachos a shot.

Okay, fine. 10/10, would recommend. Whatever. I still want credit.
