What will Internet Trolls do with themselves if they can't complain about a political party on every single story?

Discussion on the internet should be a well-informed exchange of ideas and opinions that benefits from the variety of viewpoints from people throughout the world.

Instead, having a comments section on a website is like standing in the middle of the highway with a sign that says "Hey Idiots. Please Throw Rocks at Me." Nobody knows this better than news websites, like WMUR here in New Hampshire, that are a magnet for trolls.

A user on the New Hampshire subreddit noticed over the weekend that the comment section on the WMUR News 9 website had disappeared from its stories. I went over to check and, while there is a button for comments, clicking on it does nothing.

Now at first I thought it was a website glitch or transition to a new comment system, but I like to think that WMUR finally had enough. Years it has spent enduring the sheer idiocy of its audience as they used the comments section as a digital latrine for people's bull****.

The last straw has broken the camel's back in a digital desert void of intelligence.

I messaged the WMUR Facebook page about their comments section and they confirmed that they did indeed remove it. I'm sure we will all miss stories about babies cuddling kittens littered with Obama-hating, a video about a kid overcoming a disability complimented with some jabs at Trump or some good ol' fashioned racism on a story about new hiking trails.

Personally, I respect WMUR's decision to follow the decision of many news outlets to remove the comments section from news stories. It can be a space for people to point out errors, but most of the time it is just a den of misinformation and hatred.

Bored blowhards with agendas can still comment on the WMUR Facebook page, which is always filled with political crazies and naive know-it-alls. Here is an example of some lovely comments left on a post about Friendly's ice cream:

I have always found it funny that the people who claim to hate certain news outlets seems to be the ones who comment on their stories the most on Facebook. They never like what is posted, but can't seem to stop themselves from sharing their opinion on it. The anger and hatred must be the only fuel in their sad little lives.
