Major League Baseball recommended all teams add more protective netting passed home plate at least 70 feet for any field-level seating and the Boston Red Sox have obliged. 

The Boston Globe is reporting the Red Sox have already announced they will extend the safety netting beyond home plate to reach each dugout. The size and type of netting is still being discussed by team officials and how high the netting will go is still yet to be determined.

The decision to increase safety netting in ballparks comes after a season in which Boston fans saw at least two brutal injuries that were likely could have been avoided if there was more netting in place.

One incident included a woman getting struck in the head by a piece of a broken bat and was described as life-threatening injuries at the time.
