From New England to Hollywood

There are so many actors from New England who have made it big.  From Adam Sandler to Seth Myers, Sarah Silverman, Dan Brown, Stephen King, Mandy Moore, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Rachel Dratch, the list goes on and on.  I have to think, however, that The Office deserves a Dundee Award for the most cast members from Massachusetts. Two of them are even from the same city.

  • Mindy Kalig, who played Kelly, is from Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Steve Carrell, who played Michael Scott, is from Concord, Massachusetts
  • John Krasinski, who played Jim, is from Newton, Massachusetts
  • B. J. Novak, who played Ryan, is also from Newton, Massachusetts (one of my favorite scenes is below. "Ryan started the fire!")

John Krasinski and B. J. Novak share more than just the same hometown.  Both of them were on the same little league baseball team, according to The Unseen Office Facebook page.  They both went to Newton South High School and even graduated in the same year (1997).

Newton, Massachusetts, Named 5th Safest City in the Country

According to safewise.com, Newton, Massachusetts, is the 5th safest city in the Country based on the amount of violent crime, property crime, crime rates per 1,000 people, and median household income.

Safewise.com also looked at crime rates in Newton, Massachusetts, and they were below the average.

What are the odds that two actors from the same hometown, the same little league team, and the same high school made it big in Hollywood?  There has to be some sort of Vegas stat that shows the astronomical odds.
