The tight-knit new Hampshire community bonded over the loss of Officer Katie Thyne, who was a 2013 graduate of Alvirne High School.

Chilly temperatures did nothing to deter the outpouring of love and respect Thursday night, as the town of Hudson came together for a candlelight vigil to honor officer Katie Thyne. She was killed last week after officials say she was dragged by a driver attempting to flee a traffic stop in Newport News, Virginia.

According to 7 News Boston, the vigil also consisted of members from the department she was a part of in Virginia. Those officials included Officer Nick Meier, who was with her on the tragic, final call. He told 7 News Boston “Every single call that I answered with her, she was excited about it.” “She loved helping people and that is something I am going to carry with me.”

The 24-year-old Navy veteran leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter. The wake is being held for her in Lowell Friday, and her funeral will be on Saturday.
