Two Maine craft breweries scored some serious awards recently at a very prestigious event.

According to the culinary sleuths over at Portland Food Map, both Allagash Brewing and Orange Bike Brewing won awards at the World Beer Cup, the preeminent beer competition in the world.

What Maine Craft Beers Won Medals at the World Beer Cup?

Allagash scored a bronze medal in the Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ale category with its Allagash Ski House beer. That's a great result, considering the category had 81 entrants battling it out. Ski House is described as a witbier with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 7.5%. It has a solid rating of 4.01 on the ratings site BeerAdvocate.

The brewery also scored a gold medal for its flagship beer, Allagash White, which should surprise nobody, considering it's a flawless beer. This was in the Belgian-Style Witbier category, which featured 68 entries. Allagash White is also a witbier with a 5.2% ABV. It holds an even better rating on BeerAdvocate with a 4.16.

Finally, we get to Orange Bike Brewing. The brewery's Guava Sour finished with a bronze medal in the Gluten-Free Beer category, which included 50 entries. The fruited sour is a very popular pour at the gluten-free brewery and has an ABV of 5.4%.

These Breweries Have Made Maine Proud with Winning Medals at the World Beer Cup

These are great results for these breweries and for the state in general. It's always wonderful to see Maine go up against the rest of the world in any category and hold its own, and that's exactly what we see here.

It’s also a great representation of Maine's incredible craft beer scene, one that includes over 100 breweries statewide that continue to keep locals and tourists coming back week after week.
