9 Major Brands That Could Close Maine Stores in 2024
The way that Americans shop has been changing for the better part of a decade. For many, the convenience of perusing items online and having them shipped directly to their doorstep is a dream come true.
For others, the shopping experience at brick-and-mortar stores is still important. The opportunity to see what you're buying with your own eyes before laying down the money is invaluable.
But according to Finance Buzz, some of the biggest brands in the United States continue to struggle. Americans are still spending a whopping amount of cash on consumer goods, but where and how they're spending it is ever-evolving. That's especially true in a small population state like Maine.
In recent years, some of the most cherished retailers in America have met their end. Before its revival as a pop-up shop in Macy's stores, Toys R Us was one of the first iconic brands to see its downfall.
In 2023, Bed Bath & Beyond saw the end of its brick-and-mortar stores across the country. The company had continued to push debt down the road until the bill had to be paid. Bed Bath & Beyond now operates as an online retailer.
A New England favorite met its end in 2023 as well. Christmas Tree Shops had been a staple of many towns in Maine until financial troubles put the brand in danger. Eventually, they closed all of their stores across the region.
The retail reckoning isn't over yet. Several major brands have financial issues to work through in 2024, and may end up closing stores in Maine as a result.
