Several times a year, I go through my house to find things I no longer need or want. I hate clutter. Time to get them out of my house.
There are several things, however, that we can NOT just throw in the trash. It's illegal and very bad for the environment.

In my spare time, I use a lot of paint. If the container gets low, I have to remember not to just throw it in the trash. (I'm talking about the small tubes of paint here.)
There are some paint containers that are fine to throw away, but we should check first with the NH Department of Environmental Services.
The NHDES has a great website for you to check and see if what you are throwing away is okay or if you have to do something else with it.
For example, NH has old drug drop off locations all around the state. Check out the map to find the one closest to you. You will see that many of these locations are at Police Departments, like the one in Portsmouth at 3 Junkins Avenue.
Make sure you check out this list before you just throw a bunch of lightbulbs away. Nope, you can't throw those away either.
Remember, if you have a question of "well, what the heck do I do with it now?" always check the NHDES. They are extremely helpful. Especially if you've had motor oil in an old shed since 1982 and you're not sure what the heck to do with it. (Hi. It's Me. I'm the Problem, it's Me.)
