As visitors stroll into Maine during the summer, one of their favorite destinations is Freeport.

For most people, that's to visit the signature location of L.L Bean as well as shop through many of the other stores and outlets the town has.

In more recent years, those visitors have been peeling away from shopping and visiting one of the strangest tourist attractions in the state, the Desert of Maine.

Acres of glacial sand dunes give the property a true desert feel. Usually, when summer is over, the sand dunes sit quiet at night. Not this year.

The haunt will see visitors walked in groups through the same path you'd take visiting the dunes in the daytime except something sinister lurks at night. Every single exhibit at the Desert of Maine will become a scare site.

Live actors will recreate scenes throughout the one-mile loop as guests attempt to survive the scares along the dunes and into the haunted forest.

Timed Tickets Will Be Required For Desert of Maine's New Haunted Attraction

Wander in Terror happens for six nights only:

  • Thursday, October 22
  • Friday, October 23
  • Saturday, October 24
  • Thursday, October 29
  • Friday, October 30
  • Saturday, October 31

The event runs from 6pm until 9pm on each one of those dates, weather permitting.
