Here Are the Six Most Popular Cars in Maine

People love their trucks here in Maine.

Mainers either own a truck or have a close friend or family member who owns one. Hell, people probably try to claim their truck as a dependent on their taxes. Trucks are a true part of Maine. I'm surprised a silhouette of one isn't on the next license plate design.

Knowing how popular trucks are in Maine, a newly-released report on new auto sales shouldn't shock anyone.

The folks over at Edmunds decided to take a closer look at the most popular new car sales in every state. The site determined the top six for every state from sales receipts, new vehicle registrations, and other data. You can read more about the methodology here.

As one could imagine, Maine's list was dominated by trucks. Four of the six spots are pickups, while the other two are sport utility. There's no actual car in sight.

Several factors certainly help truck and SUV sales in Maine. The weather, terrain, remoteness, and road conditions are some of the ones that come to mind. Plus, there's this psychological feeling of comfort and safety when driving a larger car, even though statistics may say otherwise.

6. Subaru Forester

Of course, a Subaru made the list. It's incredible to see how many of these crossovers are on Maine streets. I wouldn't be shocked to see this become even more popular.

5. GMC Sierra 

This is the first of the "Big 4" trucks to make the list. It's just slightly lower than its larger cousins.

4. Toyota Rav-4 

This versatile SUV has become one of the most popular vehicles in the entire country. The numerous powertrain options is a major plus.

3. Dodge Ram 

The bronze medal goes to the Ram. This is a great showing, but it's once again behind the two major rivals of Ford and Chevy.

2. Chevy Silverado

The runner-up always seems to be the Silverado. It's extremely popular, but just can't get over the hump.

1. Ford F-Series

America's most popular truck is also Main's most popular. Way to fit in with the cool kids, Maine. The Ford F-Series continues to dominate the sales here and all across the country, including New Hampshire and Vermont.
