It appears that the switch has flipped. After the entire month of April was filled with clouds, rain and snow, we all worried May wouldn't be much better. It started that way, with an incredibly rare May snowstorm. But Mother Nature appears to be making up for it at the end of the month, with an equally rare May heat wave staring New England directly in the face next week.

Shared on Twitter by Robert LaRoche, starting as soon as Tuesday, New England will find itself in a nice pocket of warm air that doesn't seem to be going anywhere through the following weekend. There will be still be cloudy days that will mess with the overall high temperatures, but some of the states could be consistently staring at 3-4 days straight of temperatures over 80 degrees. That sure beats a high of 52 and windy.

That string of high 70's and low 80's is considerably warmer than the average temperature of this time of year in New England. You could argue that Vacationland almost jumped directly over spring, going from late-winter mildness to 3 weeks of spring-like weather, to summertime heat. As if 2020 wasn't weird enough as it, Mother Nature seems to be putting on a show.

So yes, it may be time to install the air conditioners because things are looking a little toasty next week.
