Man Fights With Newington, NH Cops, Subdued with Taser

A man who struggled with police after they found him sleeping in his car on an overpass was tased by Newington police late Sunday night.

An officer found a Chrysler 300 parked on the Woodbury Avenue overpass over the Route 16 overpass around 11:35 p.m. with a man inside. The vehicle was running and in drive with the doors locked, Newington Police Chief Michael Bilodeau told Seacoast Current.

A second officer was called to the overpass and parked his cruiser in front of the sedan. When the man, Nicholas Wells, 29, of Chesapeake, Virginia woke up, he took his foot off the brake which caused it to move forward and hit the cruiser parked in front, according to Bilodeau.

Struggle on the Overpass

Wells initially refused to unlock the door and get out. Once he did unlock the door, he continued to struggle and a taser was used to subdue him. The officers continued to fight with Wells outside the vehicle before he could be cuffed.

The chief said Wells was the only person in the car and is in the area on business.

Wells was charged with DWI, resisting arrest, driving after suspension, and having an open container. He is being held on $1,000 cash at the Rockingham County Jail pending his arraignment.
