I thought for sure that amount of time I had off during the Summer vaca of 1981, would forever be unbroken. That record is about to be smashed to smithereens.

I remember quite clearly that the last day of school in June of 1981 coincided with my Mother's birthday (June 11th). Also, I was fortunate enough that throughout all 12 years of my scholastic journey, New Hampshire schools ALWAYS went back on the Wednesday AFTER Labor Day.

Read it and weep folks! September NINTH. Does that September look familiar? Yes, this years days fall on exactly the same dates as that magical year of 1981 when Lionel Ritchie ruled the world.

Well, my nephews are going about to break my record for Summer Vaca and it's not even going to be close.

Due to the pandemic, they haven't been inside a school since March. Their online learning ended just a couple weeks after Easter, AND to really rub it in, they're going back on September TENTH.

For years I would brag about the Summer vaca of 1981 and now they have almost doubled it.

I'll have to 'move the goalposts' on this battle and try to recall exactly what year it was in which we had TWO SETS OF BACK TO BACK SNOW DAYS in February WITH February vacation.

I swear that month we only had 5 or 6 full work days of school. GLORIOUS.

I can also brag about how EVERY Wednesday was a half day for the first six years. They went to 'early release' only once per month when I entered 7th grade.

This battle has only just begun!
