New Hampshire Fish and Game is investigating the puzzling incident.

According to WMUR ABC 9, last month, an adult female moose was shot, killed and left at Sugarloaf Pond in Stratford. Whoever is responsible for the shooting first shot the animal in the chest, and then, after she was wounded, approached her and delivered the final shot to the head at close range. The incident remains under active investigation by Fish and Game. According to the investigation, nothing from the moose was left to salvage. Instead, hundreds of pounds of meat were left wasted.

Further penalties could be forthcoming, and authorities are urging the person, or persons responsible to surrender to law enforcement. Operation Game Thief is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest.
