New Hampshire Community Unites to Light Up the Holidays
You know that feeling you get when it's cold and dark outside and you are taking a stroll with your family during the holidays? You look at all the store fronts so festively decorated, the trees along the road are lit up with twinkling lights and beautiful wreaths? It looks like the inside of a snow globe. For a moment, you are transported to your childhood, everything is happy all around, life is really great in this moment..... but then, all of a sudden, everything goes dark.
Dover, New Hampshire Faced a Big Holiday Problem
The City of Dover, New Hampshire is in the process of replacing diseased trees in the Central Avenue, downtown area. Not only are they in the midst of doing that, but they are also going to install light poles, with electricity. Great improvements for the City, but that isn't going to be done until 2026. Also, the focus of those important projects has left an issue.
How Will the City of Dover Light Up the Holidays?
According to a press release, a newly formed Volunteer Dover City Lights Committee has announced its "Festive Fronts Program" which will bring holiday cheer and lights to last a lifetime to Downtown Dover.
With help from the Community, the Committee plans to:
- Light up Downtown Buildings, The Joe B. Parks Garden and Waldron Court.
- Decorate the Community Holiday Tree at Rotary Arts Pavilion
- Commission seasonal art murals for vacant storefronts
- Enhance storefronts with professional decorations
Talk about a Winter Wonderland! Somebody call the Hallmark Channel, this place is going to look like a movie set! Each year, the Committee plans to grow the program so Dover's identity as a destination will be reinforced for generations to come.
Here's How You Can Help Light Up Dover, NH
The Committee has set a fundraising goal of $50,000. They are looking for business sponsorships and donations from community members alike. This will be a legacy donation to brighten the city for years to come.

Now, think about that walk with your family again. You are in downtown Dover, but now, you are pushing your Grandchildren in a stroller. You look up with pride at all the twinkling lights of the Garrison City and you think to yourself, "I had a part in this incredible display of Holiday Magic."
