New Hampshire Home for Sale Was a Water Tank That Served a 26-Room Mansion
Talk about funky, luxurious, and historic all the way around. Welcome to 16 Birchwood Place in Dover, New Hampshire. Listed by Matthew Flathers with Bean Group, it's most definitely one of the most unique homes in New England. It started as a water tank back in 1865, originally serving wealthy entrepreneur Jonathan Sawyer's 26-room Dover mansion. That mansion, by the way, is where the closed Burger King is in Dover.
According to the listing, this circular home is often referred to as the roundhouse, with many luxurious modernizations over the years. Beautifully landscaped on more than half an acre, the yard is fenced with plenty of privacy for this three-level home with an eight-foot arched entranceway. Of course, everything is custom, because it's a circular home at almost 2,750 square feet with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Everything is top of the line according to the listing, with six internal cameras, exposed brick, an incredible spa-like shower, walk-in closets with restaurant-grade exhaust in the kitchen, and a very open floor plan. It's stone throughout, with stunning thick wood plank floors and beamed ceilings. It's truly an architectural wonder.
According to Boston Magazine, there's even a bar made out of stone, and that custom spa-like shower I mentioned earlier is made out of a 300-pound hunk of granite left from an old bridge. This three-level home apparently has some hidden rooms as well, which came about during its transition from a water tank to a home back in the 1970s, according to Boston Magazine.
