There were several factors that determined who were the happiest. They are emotional and physical well-being, work environment and lastly, community and environment.
Having lived in New England my whole life, it comes as no surprise to me that NH and MA are among the happiest states in the country.
Having beautiful beaches in close proximity really does help your emotional and physical health. Many people in NH and MA work from home which makes for a great work/life balance and if you live here or have made a visit, you know the environment is beautiful.
Other Thoughts About the Happiest States in the Country
Of course Hawaii is at the top spot. I've never been there, but from what I've seen in pictures, it is one of the most beautiful places in the entire world.
New Jersey coming in at Number 4? Nothing against New Jersey, but I wouldn't have picked that one. Maybe because of it's proximity to New York?
