Now that the dust has settled on the 2016 Summer Olympics it's time to break down which of the 50 states in America had the most medals based on where the athletes call home. 

SmartAsset.com ran the numbers on all the medals given out to members of the United States teams, and then figured out where each athlete is from, thus giving us the states with the most medals.

Their calculations include individual and team sports. So the NBA team won gold for the USA but each member of the team medaled. Then, they took into account population size, and divided the total number of medals by the population of the state and multiplied it by 10,000; producing the top 10 states with the most medals per 10,000 residents.

According to SmartAseset, New Hampshire had two medalists who both won gold and they were part of the Women's Coxed 8 rowing team.
