Every early morning I look to the southeast and see Saturn and Jupiter aligned like two giant eyes of a face just waiting to smile. According to a couple sources, the moon will be providing the smile on May 16th. Will this really happen?

The confusion I have is that the most common memes detailing this event claim that the conjunction of VENUS and Jupiter will be the eyes, but, unless something drastic happens in the next few days, Venus will not be a part of this celestial funny face at all.

I mean, do you really expect scientific accuracy when observing an Instagram meme?

Call me naive, but I think there's a good chance for this smile to happen in the early morning hours of Saturday May 16th as the 'Flower' moon will be a perfect crescent shape as it will be waning just past last quarter.

Unfortunately, unless someone with more qualifications than me (I have none) confirms this soon, I won't be able to tell until I can check out the lunar position in about two weeks.

This did happen back in 2014 though and it's really cool to see!
