Hurry, New Hampshire

You only have until midnight on May 17, 2024.

If you (for some reason( haven't filed your 2020 taxes yet and are owed a refund, you have a small window to collect it. Otherwise, your money goes back into the hands of Uncle Sam, according to patch.com.

Over 4000 people who are owed refunds from 2020 haven't filed their returns yet, and that means that the Internal Revenue Service is KEEPING almost five million dollars of New Hampshire residents' money.

New Hampshire, how does that happen?

In short, people who are owed a refund from the IRS don't file their taxes.  It's not like the IRS is going to call you, text you, etc.  In fact, I am pretty certain that they don't care whether or not you file.  It makes no difference to them, although they may say that they want you to file because it puts more money back into the economy (but I don't buy it).

According to the Patch article, the law states that you have three years to file and claim your money, and in normal times, the deadline would be long gone. However, remember a little thing called the "pandemic?"  Yeah, that time that we thought we were all going to die?  Well, the IRS extended the deadline to this year.  Specifically, May 17, 2024.

Maybe People Forgot?

I mean, it was a global pandemic.  I lost my mind during the pandemic, so I get it.  Maybe you just had a part-time job and didn't think you'd have to file?  Or maybe you were just putting it off because they kept extending the deadline?  Whatever the case may be, file now or the IRS will forever hold your money.  Honey.

Here are instructions on how to file.

Have you ever not filed your tax returns?
