Does anyone know how to discourage a woodpecker intent on attacking the clapboards of my parents house? The holes in the pictures are about the size of a quarter and luckily at this point there are only two.

The beast that is perpetrating this unholy holing is a fairly small Downy woodpecker. My mother's first wave of countering this activity included reloading the suet feeder and spraying vinegar on the affected areas. Apparently vinegar is a delicious condiment for whatever the woodpecker was pecking and the attacks increased.

My father stepped up the attack with Raid hornet killer and that seems to have been more a more effective solution. But with the monsoon like conditions we've been experiencing, how long before it washes away and the attacks return? Be afraid. Be very afraid.
