We unfortunately live in a world where mass shootings and threats of similar action are all too prevalent.

According to Seacoast Current, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and other area school districts went into lockdown today, December 8, 2022, after "police received messages about active shooters." At the time of this writing, all calls are being investigated and taken seriously until "their validity is determined", according to The New Hampshire Department of Safety. The current likelihood is that the threats were all hoaxes.

Hoax or not, these circumstances can still be very frightening for all involved. One Portsmouth business heard about what was going on, and responded with a simple act of kindness to counteract the hate and help make the community a better place.

Fezziwig's Food & Fountain is a cafe on State Street that's both "charming and whimsical," serving "lunch, weekend brunch, delectable milkshakes, cozy beverages, sweet treats, and more!", according to their website. This writer's been there, and it truly is a delightful spot.

In light of the aforementioned threats made to area schools today, those at Fezziwig's posted this to Facebook this afternoon:

How kindhearted is this? In a perfect world, there obviously wouldn't be the need to cheer people up, as no one deserves to experience a shooter scare. However, given the circumstances, this small act of kindness is truly admirable, and goes a long way.

Other Facebook users were also moved by the post, commenting words of gratitude:

Thank you for being a glimmer of hope that kindness still exists for our kids

This simple act of kindness literally made me cry.

Thank you for being a part of the goodness in this world!

We absolutely couldn't agree more. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Fezziwig's, for being a beacon of goodness, especially during the holidays.

Fezziwig's will be open until 4pm today. Their normal operating hours are Mondays and Thursdays 11am-4pm, Fridays and Saturdays 11am-5pm, and Sundays 10am-4pm. The business is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
