Ronnie Montrose Memorial Concert to Feature Slash, Members of Aerosmith, Styx and Night Ranger
This year's NAMM convention weekend will coincide with an all-star memorial concert held in honor of Ronnie Montrose.
Titled Ronnie Montrose Remembered, the all-ages event is scheduled to be held at the Observatory in Santa Ana, Calif., on Jan. 23. Currently announced performers include Slash, Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, Styx's Ricky Phillips and Night Ranger's Brad Gillis as well as a long list of veteran rockers such as Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens, ex-Whitesnake guitarist Doug Aldrich and drummer Carmine Appice.
Montrose, who passed away in 2012, was previously honored by a tribute show in the weeks after his death, which found the surviving members of Montrose and Gamma joined by Joe Satriani for a career-spanning set that was later commemorated with the DVD Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life in Music.
As noted by Montrose's official site, the Jan. 23 concert will also feature the presentation of this year's Ronnie Montrose Rock the Nation Award. Established in 2014, the award seeks to honor and encourage "young guitarists who aspire to greatness," and is given to one male and one female between the ages of 10 and 18 "who best exemplify the stellar drive and love of the guitar that Montrose tried to instill in children throughout his life." Presentation of the Rock the Nation award will be handled by its founders at Guitar Player magazine.
Tickets for the Ronnie Montrose Remembered concert are now available for $25. For more information or to purchase your passes, visit the Observatory website.
