Dover has canceled its Holiday Parade but not for the reason one might think.

Prior to the parade's cancellation due to the pandemic in 2020 a different civic group would take on the responsibility of producing the parade traditionally held the Sunday after Thanksgiving as the parade is not a city event.

City Manager J. Michael Joyal Jr. broke the news at Wednesday's City Council meeting that no group was able to take on the job this year.

"The organizations were not able to come together to pull that together," Joyal said. "The fire department has been in touch with the North Pole and Santa will be making a special trip to Dover and they have agreed to help transport Santa through the neighborhoods."

Dover Main Street will help out with escorting Santa and of his elves around Dover on Sunday, Dec. 12 from noon until 4 p.m.

The city's Channel 22 will air video of past parades that day starting at 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
