These Are the Oldest Counties in New Hampshire
It's always interesting to learn more about the towns that make up our beloved state.
A look at the 20 least populated towns in New Hampshire revealed that the least-populated town in the entire state is the two-person town of Livermore. The area was once a thriving small community, but is now a wooded ghost town. Only structural remnants and debris remain from this place that once was.
We then discussed the 20 most populated New Hampshire towns. Did you know that you can get married in an authentic English Tudor castle in Windham, or that the biggest arcade in the world is in Laconia? How about the fact that Keene is a world record holder for having the largest number of jack-o-lanterns on display?
No matter how big or small these communities are, we appreciate all of the places that we call home. So, instead of talking about towns, let's shift our focus to counties.
According to the State of New Hampshire, the Granite State has ten counties: Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Coös, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford, and Sullivan. But which one is the oldest? How about the newest?
We did some research on the New Hampshire Employment Security website, and uncovered some interesting findings. So without further ado, here's a countdown of the oldest counties in the state, in order of newest to oldest. Be sure to go to the bottom to find out which county has been around the longest. Spoiler alert: there's more than one.
