This New Hampshire City Has Many Free Parking Lots in Their Walkable Downtown, and It’s Amazing
Rochester, New Hampshire, Has a Lot of Free Parking
There is nothing better than making plans for dinner with one of your best friends at Revolution Tap Room in Rochester, New Hampshire, and knowing that you don't have to pay for parking when you get there. Rochester has free parking lots all around the downtown area, so when I got there, I just parked in one of the lots, locked my car, and off I went! No kiosk, no credit card that you had to insert, no trying to remember your license plate, nothing. Just get out, lock, and go.
The Lilac City has 455 parking spaces available, according to Rochesternh.gov. a=And if you get to the downtown area early enough, for example, 3 or 4pm for dinner, you're sure to find a spot close to the place you are going.
Rochester, New Hampshire, Downtown is Walkable
Rochester's downtown isn't very big. There is the aforementioned Revolution Tap Room, which is my friend Aaron and I's favorite place to hang.
Then there's the Lilac City Grille, which has live music on certain nights. You can also walk to the Governor's Inn, which has a great restaurant, live music, and has been the host for weddings and other special events. All are walkable places from one of the many free parking lots in Rochester.
Portsmouth, New Hampshire, once had free parking
Portsmouth used to have free parking in a few lots throughout the city, but that isn't the case anymore. With the growth of that city, they have had to build new parking garages. Portsmouth parking, in comparison to other cities, however, is still relatively inexpensive, but it's not free like Rochester.
I should say that there may be certain spots that you have to pay for in Rochester, but from my experience (usually on a Friday night at around 4pm), I've been able to get a free space every time. That's part of the reason why Rochester has become one of my favorite night spots to hang, but don't tell Portsmouth.
