Please say hello to Crusher.

Crusher is up for adoption in Maine at this very moment. And with Christmas coming up, there couldn't be a better time to consider this handsome boy.

In this season of giving, it's important to remember there are countless four-legged friends who could benefit from a new home... and that includes dogs that may be a little older in age.

Crusher is a mixed breed, fully grown dog who is a perfect fit for a couple or adult only, low-traffic home looking for a great companion. He has lived with cats before and gets along very well with people.

And yes, Crusher is over 8 years old. But don't let that deter you.

Old Dogs New Digs, an advocacy group that helps find foster and forever homes for senior dogs, is working with the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk to help Crusher find a forever home.

These are just a few of the plethora of Maine organizations and foster families supporting pets, whether they are young or old. It's all about helping them out.

Since Crusher is a senior dog, it will be more difficult for him to find a forever home. But maybe you could change that.

Yes, sadly senior dogs are not the most popular pick of the litter, but I can absolutely vouch for those old boys and girls.

This is a picture of my dog, Austin.

I should say he was my dog. Austin left this world in the fall of 2020. Don't feel bad though, Austin had a long, wonderful life. My family was absolutely better for having him. He brightened our lives on a daily basis.

We adopted Austin at the age of 10. Amazingly, we had Austin for seven years!

I can't even tell you how incredible those seven years were. I've had a lot of pets throughout my 40+ years. While I will always have a great connection to all of them, Austin was special. There's no doubt a senior dog brings a different element of love and respect from day one.

There's also a wonderful sense of security and affection given to the senior dog. It's immeasurable how much they will appreciate this new companionship.

You can have all of this and more from Crusher. The Animal Welfare Society even has some great literature on the benefits of adopting a senior dog, like already being housebroken, trained, and needing less stimulation.

So, consider Crusher this holiday season and give him the Christmas surprise of a forever home. You can provide that gift of unconditional love.

That will absolutely be a life-changer.
