To the Girl Who Ripped a Grocery Basket Out of My Hands at Portland, Maine’s Hannaford

This story is incredible; I still can't even believe this happened.

Okay, so I understand that holidays can be very stressful for some people. I also understand that it can make us act out on accident, because I've been there myself a few times.

However, that doesn't give you the excuse OR right to be flat-out disrespectful to me at a grocery store because you couldn't find what you wanted.

As we all know, there's a pile of grocery baskets near the front door of every grocery store. Nine times out of 10, there's more than enough available. But on this day, there wasn't. I walked into the Portland Hannaford location by Back Cove to grab a small basket, knowing I wasn't going to be grabbing a bunch of things.

I remember thinking to myself "Oh, there's only one left, must be my lucky day", as I picked it up and carried on to the produce section. PLOT TWIST.

Before I could even make it to my first stop, I feel a tug on my basket that wasn't letting loose. I turn around thinking it's a friend of mine playing a prank on me, but nope. There you were, literally trying to tug this basket from me. I'll be honest, it was so bizarre to me, I thought I was daydreaming. I wasn't.

You pulled the basket (forcefully, might I add), from my hands with an attitude, and said "I should have gotten this last basket, not you". As I'm realizing you're stone-cold serious, I politely asked you what you're talking about.

You said, "I was up next for this basket, I was two feet behind you calling dibs on it until you took it for yourself". In my head I'm realizing she truly believes this, and I just truly didn't see her to fight her on it with my side of things. Otherwise, if I had heard somebody calling out "DIBS" for a last grocery basket the same way you do for the front seat of a car, I'd just give it to you. You clearly needed this more than me.

You stole the basket right out of my hands, gave me your attitude about it,  then walked away to go shopping like nothing was wrong. I've never seen anything like this. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and tell myself you were probably just having a bad day and took it out on me. However, that's no way to treat a human at any time, let alone in public. I continued to do my thing and not talk back or seek revenge on you, but I do hope you understand how ignorant it is to be your age (somewhere in your 20's, it seemed), and acting like that.

Damn. I'm bringing my own basket next time.
