Dining out is one of my favorite things to do, and there's something special about what a restaurant offers when you go.
To me, it's more than just a meal. It's an experience.
As an adult, I still enjoy going out to eat, but there was nothing quite like it when I was a kid. Oh, to be a kid again.
Growing up in the Portland, South Portland, and Gorham area, a dinner out felt like a special occasion. When my parents took me and my brother out to eat, it was a big deal. We always made sure to make the most of it every time.
And Maine has such a great food scene. There are so many places across the state that are standout spots, and so many from my past that I think about often.
Was it the same for you? You probably had your favorite places to visit when you were younger, and if you could go back, you could. Unfortunately, many of them just aren't around anymore.
But that doesn't mean we can't think fondly of them and the good times we had.
In honor of those memories, here's a list of 20 restaurants in Maine from the '80s and '90s that are a pure nostalgia trip.
It already makes me wish I could get a table at one and grab a bite to eat. Now I'm just plain hungry.
What places do you remember from a couple of decades ago that you have great memories from?
